MODE is the manifesto building of Rimini’s urban regeneration program — an ambitious project aimed at redefining the image of Riviera hospitality by transforming the mid-century hotel heritage of the 1950s and 1960s into a sustainable and contemporary model.
Rizoma Architetture conceived the design concept, aptly titled “Green is the new black” — a challenge centered on the building envelope: enhancing energy performance, reducing consumption and environmental impact, all while maintaining a carefully controlled budget.
The result is an iconic structure, already nicknamed the “Chameleon Building” for its distinctive green façade — a symbol of sustainability — enriched with iridescent ceramic details. A bold design choice, conceived to harmonize with the ever-evolving urban and natural surroundings.
MODE perfectly embodies the new standards of outdoor hospitality: a relaxation area with pool, tables, and lounge seating creates a hybrid, flexible, and welcoming space that adapts seamlessly to different moments and uses throughout the day.
The façade, rhythmically articulated with integrated planters, is designed to evolve into a true green wall as vegetation grows and blends with the architectural backdrop — an organic transformation consistent with the idea of a building in continuous metamorphosis.
A project that demonstrates how innovation, sustainability, and beauty can coexist in the built environment. Because yes — green is the new black.
