Sairme Bakery is a welcoming café in Tbilisi, Georgia, set within the industrial grounds of Tegeta Motors, a holding company and national leader in automotive products and services. In 2023, Rizoma Architetture took on the challenge of designing its interior in collaboration with AFA Arredamenti, with the ambition of creating an entirely Made in Italy environment that offers a relaxing retreat in a context driven by business and the adrenaline of roaring engines visible from the surrounding buildings.

The café stands out for its distinctive geometry: an enveloping, almost spherical volume rises above a large triangular terrace furnished with tables and sofas. Sairme Bakery appears almost like a contemporary pagoda, in deliberate contrast to the surrounding industrial landscape. Subtle references to traditional nomadic culture are woven into an intriguing blend of cultures and styles, which come together in a cohesive and harmonious whole.

Conceived as a kind of “raw garden”, Sairme Bakery offers a calm, orderly atmosphere. Cascading plants descend from the central counter, the planters, and the ceiling, softening the architectural lines. Generous natural light enters through the large front window, reinforcing the sense of openness and continuity with the outdoors. Recurrent rounded forms, free of sharp edges, together with tactile materials such as wood, leather, and granite, create a feeling of warmth and authenticity.

The color palette focuses on natural tones. Sage green, featured in the finishes and in the frosted tiles that cover portions of the walls, complements the terracotta and hazel shades of the larger surfaces. Black details tie the space together, while brass accents introduce subtle notes of energy and character. From the ceiling, spherical pendant lights with a soft glow descend in a radial pattern, like suspended candles, their reflections multiplying in the side windows. At Sairme Bakery, this sense of suspension becomes a guiding theme and gently reminds each guest that here, in a place of tranquility and intimacy, they can allow themselves a pause, a brief return to themselves, even if only for the time it takes to enjoy a coffee.
