CASA NL

This project stems from the need of a young couple from Romagna not to leave their places of birth, chasing after patterns and lifestyles different from those that are offered by their home area.

An excellent agricultural activity turns into the main reason why this family unit wanted to build a new house in the workplace: an orchard of wonderful kiwi plants becomes the ideal setting for rethinking the rural home.

Farm 4.0 is a place that is in step with the times but firmly rooted in the history of the Faenza countryside. The rural courtyard is bordered by two new buildings: the single-story NZEB building of the manor house built entirely of wood and recycled/recyclable materials, gas-free, open to the courtyard and sheltered from the morning sun by a longitudinal porch that follows its inner front; and the barn/tool shed built of load-bearing masonry, embellished by an exposed wood roof and corten steel shutters that protect the porch, pushing it toward a more contemporary compositional dimension.

Casa NL is home and work, not the (not only) digital one, but the one linked to the land, to one’s roots and to one’s future, full of spaces for an extended family to the closest relatives as well as to the many people who animate its context, not an isolated place, but a new piece of an “involuntary” rural cohousing, the tile of a mosaic that points, with joy, to the future not severing its roots.
