Villa Miranda
Villa Miranda’s first life began in 1926, when it was built in the heart of the Abissinia district, which quickly became an iconic landmark of Riccione’s historic summer holiday scene. Almost a century later, Rizoma Architetture preserves its original character while transforming its interiors through a renovation and interior design project for Marianna Chiaraluce and Alfredo Monetti.
From the outside, the villa retains its distinctive 1920s identity: white volumes, green shutters, a pitched roof, wrought-iron balconies and a portico overlooking the garden. Almost the perfect film set for a quintessential Italian seaside home.
Crossing the threshold, the story shifts scene, time speeds up, and the interior design project brings Villa Miranda into the present. Its domestic spaces unfold through sequences of colour and architectural motifs. Arches, curved silhouettes and converging lines guide the eye from one room to the next, almost as if following the movement of a camera. The focus shifts to the warm tones of brass details and honey-coloured window frames, alternating with sage and peacock greens. It lingers on glossy ceramic surfaces, geometric patterns and floral motifs. Expansive, uncluttered walls and white curtains amplify the natural light, bringing a sense of airiness, freshness and lightness to the interiors.
Here, furnishings—sometimes contemporary, sometimes vintage—become part of the mise-en-scène. Unexpected, irreverent and self-ironic details drawn from Italian pop culture complete the picture: visual twists that disrupt the architectural composure and introduce a playful, theatrical note, deeply reminiscent of Fellini’s cinematic universe.
The result is a pop-inspired yet sophisticated interior, cultured but never solemn, where modernist influences, 1970s references, Art Deco details and contemporary design coexist without following a predetermined script.
Villa Miranda is a home, but also a reflection of a story in which reality, memory and imagination intertwine with the everyday life, good taste and personal passions of its inhabitants.
Rizoma Architetture does more than renovate a villa: it rewrites its screenplay, allowing each room to become a new shot and the everyday set for its inhabitants’ lives. A home born in 1926 that embraces the present with lightness, character and a healthy dose of irreverence.
It takes lightness, character, and a touch of healthy irreverence.
